#THEFANTASIES: AVONDALE WOLVES

Hey team,

Welcome to the first post for #thefantasies. Where I create concept designs for areas that don't actually have local teams. I will always try create Club logos and uniforms/merchandise to suit a variety of sports where I can.

In saying that, this first one is a bit different. Because although the Auckland suburb of Avondale actually had a Rugby League club called the Avondale Wolves, it folded in the late '90s. Why choose that particular club then you ask? Easy, one of our team members played for them, we started in a sleep out in Avondale (Canal Road what up) and we thought it was fitting to pay homage to the eight twenty eight Dale state. Plus the Green and Mauve/ Burgundy/ Maroon or whatever you wanna call it (Im gonna call it mauve) retro colour way is dope asf. Now because this was an actual club once upon a time, I have decided to stick with the league strips only for this one.

I decided to keep with the original colours but add to the colour palette with different shades. Instead of just doing a wolf head like the original, I chose to use a full body animal to allow for more freedom if needing to design supporters gear etc.

In regards to the uniforms, I kept it simple and pretty heritage. The main strip is reminiscent of one of the last strips the Wolves actually wore - Green body and Mauve V. I used a bit more of a modern V, and added a green gradient to really bring it into 2019. Looking back at the archives(google), I could only find team photos where the team was wearing black shorts. Not wanting to stray from the original too much, I kept these black also but added a Mauve side panel.

For the away strip, I went with the old cotton style jerseys with the 3/4 length arms design, but inverted the colours. Instead of the green body and Mauve stripes I obviously went with the Mauve body and green stripes. I didn't like how it was kinda bland with the actual style of stripes used traditionally so I switched it up a little bit and added in a bit of white.

Overall this little project was fun and kinda helped me figure out how to approach future projects. Im keen to do more so will need to figure out where to do next. If you have any suggestions, let us know and I will do my best to get it done. Let us know what you think of my concepts for the Avondale Wolves, whether you like it or hate it, what can be improved and in general just your thoughts. Who knows, maybe we will see a comeback of the Avondale Wolves.

- Peace
